Power spikes
Power spikes refer to points in the game where a champion becomes significantly stronger, usually due to leveling up, completing key items, or reaching a specific phase of the game.
- Level-Based Power Spikes:
- Level 2/3: Some champions have strong level 2 or 3 all-ins (e.g., Renekton, Leona). Understanding this can help you decide whether to engage or play safe during the early laning phase.
- Level 6: Many champions have a major power spike when they unlock their ultimate ability (e.g., Malphite, Katarina). Be cautious when the enemy hits level 6, and look for opportunities to capitalize when you hit level 6 first.
- Item-Based Power Spikes:
- First Completed Item: The first major item (e.g., Kraken Slayer, Liandry’s Anguish) often provides a significant power spike. If you complete your item before your opponent, look for trades or objectives.
- Two-Item Spike: Certain champions become much stronger after completing their second item. For example, ADCs often spike after completing their Mythic item and another damage item like Infinity Edge or Phantom Dancer.
- Full Build: Late-game champions typically spike when they complete their full build, as they reach their maximum potential in terms of damage or utility.
- Champion-Specific Power Spikes:
- Scaling Champions: Champions like Kassadin or Vayne scale exceptionally well into the late game. Their power spikes occur when they reach late-game levels and items, making them formidable threats.
- Early Game Champions: Champions like Pantheon or Renekton are strong in the early game and have power spikes around their first few levels and items. Their goal is to snowball early leads before they fall off in the late game.
- Team Composition Power Spikes:
- Teamfight Compositions: Teams that excel in teamfights often spike when they have key ultimates available or when their core items are completed. Understanding when your team is strongest can help you time engages and objective contests.
- Objective Control: Power spikes can also align with important objectives like Dragon or Baron. If your team has a power spike around the time these objectives spawn, it’s a good time to contest or force a fight.
- Adapting to Power Spikes:
- Play Aggressively During Your Power Spikes: If you hit a power spike, look for opportunities to fight, push, or take objectives.
- Respect Enemy Power Spikes: When you know the enemy is about to hit a power spike, play more cautiously, avoid unnecessary fights, and wait for your own team’s power spikes before engaging.
